Student Life Intern

As a Student Life Intern, you will have the opportunity to foster inter-campus student community through organizing student engagement events. You will develop leadership and delegation skills through recruiting, interviewing, and managing a team of Student Lounge Volunteers, modeling professional behavior and enabling them to take on new challenges like hosting their own lounge events. You’ll have an inside scope into the daily workings of Student Life at Macaulay, including learning event promotion and management and contributing to student engagement strategies. Working within the Macaulay Student Development team, you’ll gain perspective and work hands-on to help us reach the departmental outcomes. We aim to provide programs and services that support students' leadership development and promote student engagement in co-curricular activities. 

Note: This position is a hybrid of remote and mostly in-person work hours.
 

  • Recruit, interview, and manage a team of Student Lounge Volunteers: delegating tasks, coaching their leadership development, maintaining accountability, facilitating team collaboration, unity, and communication, hosting monthly team meetings, and assisting them with planning and implementing their own student engagement events and projects.
  • Input events and other information into Club Macaulay, our student group management system. 
  • Facilitate operations of student spaces, physical and virtual (Reading Room, Commons, and Cabaret), including loaning equipment (games, video games, etc) and supplies to students as needed.
  • Maintain hallway screens with information about upcoming events.
  • Create regular, small-scale student events (ie: movie screening, game nights, coffee nights) open to the Macaulay community. 
  • Maintain the Gather Town virtual Reading Room. 
  • Assist with Macaulay & student organization events. 
  • Assist with advertising and promotion of student run events.
  • Assist with Student Development operations.
  • Manage and monitor Student Development inventory and property management. 
  • Provide direct evening and weekend support during college-wide events, including oversight of equipment, furniture, and supplies at various locations.
  • Attend weekly one-on-one meetings with the supervisor.
  • Contribute to Macaulay Honor College’s Social Media accounts on a weekly basis. 
     

Position to start mid-August.

Must be available to work in-person evenings including Fridays. 

*Please note payment is provided on a monthly basis through direct deposit. 

Qualifications 

  • Current Macaulay student. 
  • The successful candidate for the position of Student Life Intern for Student Development will possess excellent organizational, administrative, and computer skills, including knowledge of the entire MS Office and Google Suite (especially Google Forms and Sheets). Accuracy, attention to detail, and the ability to handle multiple projects at once are required. 
  • Ability to balance collaborative and independent work.
  • Experience working with students and a strong customer-service orientation are preferred. 
  • Past/current participation in and awareness of Macaulay and/or home campus Student Life/Activities is preferred. 
  • Past/current participation in and awareness of Macaulay Student Lounge Volunteer Program is preferred. 
  • The position will entail the handling of confidential financial and academic information and will also require an individual with demonstrated tact and maturity.
