Who We Are

The Institute for Defense Analyses (IDA) is a private, nonprofit corporation headquartered in Alexandria, Virginia, just outside Washington, DC. IDA’s mission is to answer the most challenging U.S. security and science policy questions with objective analysis leveraging extraordinary scientific, technical, and analytic expertise. IDA operates three Federally Funded Research and Development Centers (FFRDC’s). 

The Cash Accountant is responsible for preparing and analyzing financial information to determine assets, liabilities, profit, or loss, including but not limited to payroll-related tasks, posting verifying and reconciling input to financial reporting system, and/or assisting in preparation of billings and other financial reports. Responsibilities include interpreting accounting data, preparing and analyzing reports and making recommendations. Preparing various accounting documents, schedules, exhibits, and summaries. Provides support to Accounting Supervisor as needed.

Responsibilities

  • Maintains a strong understanding of Federal and state laws and regulations to include interpreting, researching and ensuring compliance.
  • Maintains a current working knowledge of accounting principles and practices and relevant government regulations and applies this knowledge to position responsibilities.
  • Maintains all aspects of companies banking relationship and activities to include managing daily cash activity, debt compliance, recording electronic payments, transmission of EFT/ACH files. 
  • Acts as the companies’ business insurance administrator.
  • Responsible for ensuring all company business tax filings are current and filed on time. 
  • Working with the Senior Manager of Financial Strategy and Analytics to prepare cash forecasting and debt management analysis for senior leadership.
  • Maintains strong understanding of the financial system, including comprehension of impact of various transactions, in order to participate in development and implementation of accounting systems, methods, procedures, and controls.
  • Provides audit support as needed.
  • Performs non-routine assignments at the direction of the Accounting Supervisor.

Qualifications

  • BS degree, preferably in Accounting, or in related field with course work in Accounting. 
  • At least three years of work experience in accounting, finance, or government contracting; familiarity with general business practices.  
  • Knowledge of accounting principles and practices and relevant government regulations. 
  • Computer literacy which includes familiarity with standard business office software such as Microsoft Office; experience using computerized accounting software. Experience with DELTEK software highly desirable.  
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing with all levels of employees.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain necessary security clearance may be required.
  • US citizenship is required.
  • Successful completion of a criminal background check is required.
